Working towards sustainable development

At Viaqua, we realise that our business is directly related to people’s quality of life. Therefore, we try and apply the following principles in all our decisions:

  • Excellence
  • Innovation
  • Dialogue
  • Developing sustainable business
  • Local development

We have an integrated management policy to achieve this aim, which is based on the three pillars of sustainable development: social, environmental and efficiency-based.

We have obtained certificates aligned to our efforts in providing a quality service and creating a safe, optimum working environment for our employees.

  • Certificate of quality

Viaqua implements a Quality Management System that adds value to the organisation and provides a framework for setting goals in the following areas within its business scope:

the supply of drinking water and management of associated services (purchasing, catchment, treatment, storage, distribution, maintenance, contracting, meter reading, billing, payment and customer services); wastewater collection, treatment and discharges; analysis and control of the quality of drinking water, swimming pool water, wastewater and sludge. The preparation of studies, preliminary plans and projects in basic and detailed engineering of the complete water cycle. Management of municipal and leisure facilities.

The Viaqua Quality Management System is certified by standard UNE-EN-ISO 9001:2015.

  • Environmental certification

Viaqua's Environmental Management System ensures compliance with the environmental legal requirements applicable to the service. It also helps to uphold its explicit commitment to society and the environment, conserving biodiversity and preventing pollution.

Implementation of the Environmental Management System is essential, as it helps us reduce and eliminate the environmental impact of our activity, making us a more sustainable company, favouring the development of clean technologies, improving management of all environmental issues and meeting current environmental legislation. Implementing international environmental management standards like standard ISO 14001 promotes care of air, water and soil quality and represents a major contribution to the world’s efforts to conserve the environment in which we live.

The Viaqua Environmental Management System is certified by standard UNE-EN-ISO 14001:2015.

  • Energy management certification  standard UNE-EN-ISO 22001:2005

Energy is a critical component in the operations of our organisation and, depending on the activity, can be one of the highest controllable costs. Improving energy performance helps us maximise use of our energy sources and energy-related assets, reducing both cost and consumption of energy. ISO 50001 provides a reference framework for our organisation so it can contribute to reducing the exhaustion of energy resources and mitigating the worldwide effects of energy consumption, such as global warming, while also improving organisational efficiency in energy-related operations. The Viaqua Energy Management System is certified by standard UNE-EN-ISO 50001:2011.

  • Occupational health and safety certification

Viaqua implements an Occupational Health and Safety Management System, certified since 2007, which ensures continuous improvement in applying measures and developing activities to prevent risks in employees’ work and to comply with current regulations. This helps create a suitable working atmosphere with fair working conditions, where employees can carry out their work with dignity and participate in improving health and safety conditions. Viaqua’s Occupational Health and Safety Management System is certified by ISO 45001:2018.
  • Food safety management certification

Food safety is a concept that means ensuring food does not cause harm to the consumer when it is prepared and/or consumed, in accordance with its proper use. The term 'food safety' refers to the existence of hazards associated with food at the time of consumption. In our case, threats to water safety can occur at any point in the production chain, so it is essential to ensure adequate controls throughout. Thus, water safety is assured through the joint efforts of everyone working in the process. The Viaqua Food Safety Management System is certified by standard UNE-EN-ISO 22000-2018.
